Being a classroom teacher is about building positive relationships with students. To paraphrase a quote, I believe students do not care and are not the least bit impressed by how much you know. What students DO care about is if you care about them as a human being. Once they know you care about them as a person, they will want to do what pleases you.
I have been involved in designing and delivering transformative professional development for more than 20 years. My educational goal is to help every teacher become an exemplary teacher who teaches to the whole child, meaning the teacher is able to not only accommodate the educational or academic needs of his/her students, but s/he is interested in meeting the social and emotional needs of their students as well, either directly or indirectly.
An exemplary teacher exhibits a passion for teaching, engages students in the learning process, is a good listener, leads by example, provides differentiated instruction, and utilizes assessment data to inform instruction and improve their teaching. An exemplary teacher does not treat every student the same but tailors interaction with students based on student need.
My full-day and half-day seminars are designed to assist teachers in improving their craft, in elevating and accelerating student achievement, and in increasing teacher satisfaction. I provide tools not theory that teachers can implement the very next day.
